Managing Tasks

Columns vs. list

In this tutorial, we’re going to talk about the two viewing modes for tasks offered by “Task Manager”: Namely, “List” and “Tile”. In order to toggle between these two modes, you need to go to the top bar and click on the dropdown labeled as the viewing mode currently in use

List

In the “List” viewing mode, the tasks are organized in a vertical list, as shown in the image below:

Task list

Each list item displays the task’s status (complete or incomplete), the status of an approval request, name, priority, due date, progress, and number of subtasks and comments.

This viewing mode also allows you to view the subtasks that belong to a certain task. These are shown below the main task, with an indent.

If you drag a task to the right and under a main task, it will become a subtask of the aforementioned main task.

Dragging a subtask to the left will make that task a main task.

The task groups are also arranged in a vertical list. These can then be expanded to reveal the tasks belonging to them or collapsed. You can also drag and drop the groups to rearrange them.

Drag and drop is not available on mobile devices.

Columns (Tiles)

Columns

In “Tiles” mode, the tasks and groups are organized to closely resemble a Kanban board.

A Kanban board is split into multiple columns, usually representing a task’s stages of completion. Cards representing various tasks are then placed within each column.

Tasks that aren’t part of a group will be shown at the leftmost edge of the main window.

The way “Task Manager” implements this is as follows: Every task group is now a separate column.

Each task is represented by a card that shows the same information as the list viewing mode.

In Tiles viewing mode, you can also change adjust the task progress slider.

You can change the group each task belongs to by dragging and dropping each task into the column corresponding to the group you wish that task to be part of.

As with the list view, you can also drag and drop groups to rearrange them.

Tiles mode is not available on small mobile devices (phones).
