Managing Tasks

Subtasks

Sometimes, complex tasks have to be broken down into smaller ones, and Subtasks is the way to do this.

Subtasks

Creating a subtask

Creating a subtask can be done in two ways:

  1. From the main window:
    • Hover your mouse over the main task and click the Three dots button
    • Click on the New Subtask button
    • This will appear in your subtask list (if you’re using the list viewing mode)

Incomplete Subtask

  1. From the task drawer
    • Go to the Subtask section
    • Click on New Subtask
    • The rest is the same as creating a task from the main window.

Managing subtasks

There are two ways of selecting a subtask:

  1. By clicking on the subtask shown in the main window. Please note that this is not possible if the viewing mode of the main window is set to List.
  2. By clicking on one of the subtasks of the selected main task in the subtasks dropdown in the task drawer.

Either way, upon selecting a subtask, the task drawer will show the information of the subtask as if it were a main task, with the only major difference being that it will show its parent task under Subtask of. There you can also change its parent task or make it a main task.

The Project and Group dropdowns of a subtask are disabled. They can only be changed from the parent task.

Changing the parent task of a subtask

  1. To change the parent task, you need to follow these steps:

    • Go to Subtask of in the task drawer and click on its current parent task.

      Current parent

    • A dropdown will appear alongside a search bar from which you can choose the new parent task. Clicking on any of those main tasks will set that task as the new parent.

      Options

  2. To make this subtask as a main task, all you need to do is this:

    • Go to Subtask of and hover over the parent task.
    • Removal
    • An x icon should appear. Clicking on it will remove the parent task from the list, thus making our subtask a standalone main task.

On desktops, in List mode, you can also convert tasks into subtasks and vice versa by dragging and dropping them. Simply start dragging any task over another one, and it will be converted into a subtask. Drag a subtask away from its place to convert it back into a main task.
